The Exit133 Forum is going into an ongoing offline maintenance mode while we take care of a long series of upgrades, updates, and code changes. You can continue to read posts, but we've disabled the creation of new posts or replies. We'll be back at full speed ... in May.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Derek
I have lived in South Tacoma for the last five years. When I tell folks that, the response I often get is, "Now where is that?" I will admit that this was my response before we moved here. One of the reasons I believe this to be the case is that my neighborhood of almost 22,000 is a place that people drive through instead of to. Unless you are buying a used car (or now getting a scooter at NW Motors), then there are not a lot of really well known reasons to come (there are a lot of reasons, but not really well known).
As a resident and member of this community, I would like to see and get to know more folks who see this community as a place to 'go to' and 'be from.' I've had a million ideas to help us move in that direction, but the one i've been coming back to is the creation of a local website that would connect neighbors with neighbors; kind of a merge b/t exit 133 and craigslist. The web does a great job of connecting people from around the world, but often fails to help us know the people right across the street. My sense is that exit 133 is changing that for Tacoma and I would like to have some help changing that for South Tacoma.
That being said, I am not a web developer/content manager. I can create content and help round up contributors, but I'd love to partner with a person/some people who have those skills AND a love for the community.
At the national night out I walked around with a sign that read: "WANTED: Community Web Developer" Other than a couple of parents who mentioned that their kids were getting into that and might be interested (until i told them there was no money involved), i didn't get a great response. So, I thought I'd try this forum. I listed it in the S. Tacoma section, because i'd love it if there was someone already here.
So, if you are that person or have leads, post or send me an e-mail. Thanks, Ken

Ken...check out i-neighbors for one existing tool for neighborhood online organizing. I've come across some other non-free ones, also (presumably geared towards homeowners associations and such), let me know if you're interested in links to those.

Jamie,
Thanks for the link, it looks interesting and promising. Do you know of anyone who has used it and if so, how well did i-neighbors work?

Hey Ken, I would help re-develop our South Tacoma Neighborhood. I have a little bit of web building experience.
I tried to get in with the Oakland/Madrona business district to help do some updating there, but I don't speak "dinosaur!"
A lifetimmer Southy, I'd love to help.
