The Exit133 Forum is going into an ongoing offline maintenance mode while we take care of a long series of upgrades, updates, and code changes. You can continue to read posts, but we've disabled the creation of new posts or replies. We'll be back at full speed ... in May.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

(Yes, it is early to discuss the 2009 election. However, in Tacoma and Pierce County, I am finding that people often start running for election in some manner 2 years before the election (or more) and we are under 2 years for the 2009 election. In fact, many of the decisions concerning local elections are made far before the year they are held.)
Pierce County Prosecutor
Backgorund
Gerry Horne will soon be retiring. Horne was one of the driving forces to try to turn around Pierce County's role as the "dumping ground" felons and sex offenders from the Department of Corrections.
Mark Lindquist (non-partisan)
It is pretty common knowledge that current prosecutor Mark Lindquist will likely run for the position. Lindquist is also the author of King of Methlehem discussed on Exit 133. Lindquist's likely most famous case was the prosecution of the Tacoma Mall shooter in which he prevailed.

Two years ago, these are the costs the following jurisdictions incurred for the "privilege" of using the Primary, to narrow down the field of candidates:
--Port of Tacoma: $327,176.55
--Tacoma Schools: $85,090.70
--Metro Parks of Tacoma: $80,003.14
--City of Tacoma: $78,721.44
GET THIS: the public is *paying* to have *less choices*.
If these jurisdictions had used Ranked Choice Voting or the Post-Election Candidate Convention, there would BE no need for an odd-numbered year primary.
