1007 Pacific Gets a Facelift
Remember the old Camera Shop? It was a blue and white building on Pacific with a slightly grungy facade that had seen better days. For decades it was one of the best places in town to find obscure camera parts. We noticed a while back that it was being renovated. For quite some time, the entire front of the building was gone. Now it seems to be mostly finished. The lower floor had lights on and office furniture with a sign saying “AAA Insurance”.

Wow. Sure looks pretty.

Exceptional “make-over” as Tacoma continues to return Pacific Ave. to what visitors are told is our “Parade route”:
Every City has one and our’s is Pac. Ave……..

That looks great. What’s with the empty (almost) band building next to it? Who owns that building? That would be a perfect flagship location for “Barack Bailout Bank and Trust”

Very pretty. And thank goodness the scaffolding is gone; it was nearly impossible to find parking around that corner. It’ll open back up some nice visibility to the Junior League “Second Closet” thrift shop next door.

I’m impressed! I still miss having a camera store there though. One less thing for me to do downtown =( Insurance is good, but cameras are way cooler

I bought my tripod at that camera shop… I miss the store. And the bldg with the sandstone doric columns used to be the Union Bank Of California. My great Aunt banked there from the 30s until she died back in 1999.
They moved to a much smaller location across from the convention center and above Pac Grill.

If we personified that building paint job as a face, this is what you’d get:

I apologize for my comment. Upon driving by at 3:30 this rainy morning, I found those columns to actually be of the Ionic Order and not the Doric Order.
Mighty Zeus and Hera, accept my contrition.

Oh, and the paint job looks yucky under electric candlelight at 3:30 AM in the cold, cold March rain.

Doric, Ionic? Come to Vinum this saturday night between 7 and 10 and you will hear a jazz band where the musicians will somtimes take solos in the Dorian mode or Ionian mode. We reserve the Phrygian mode for New York and Stockholm gigs.

And where is this Vinum located?
A altered Chords March 4, 2009
Vinum is at 10th and Pacific. It used to be “Bernardo’s Aroma Cafe” It is across the street from the “north” ugly parking garage that is home to what appears to be an out of business Stephanie’s Gospel and Jazz.

Right-o.

Makes me wonder … if other Tacoma businesses would complete a “facelift” – wouldn’t they TOO get new and MORE customers??? OF COURSE!
T Thorax O'Tool March 6, 2009
Well, it depends. Does the cost of said facelift get passed onto the customers? That’s a no-no during a
depressionrecession. And don’t forget. If your business isn’t doing good before a facelift, it may not do well after one. Remember, sometimes businesses do poorly for a reason.
