2007 National Main Streets Conference
This isn’t directly related to Tacoma, but it is relevant for many of you. The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Streets Conference will be held in Seattle this year. Here’s your opportunity to check out a really cool event without having to travel much further than the Sounder station at Freighthouse Square. This year’s theme is Building A Sustainable Future. Sessions will include (from the website):
- Smart growth: Sensitive in-fill development; adaptive reuse of historic properties; transportation planning, parking, and transit-oriented development; creating pedestrian-friendly communities; and planning and zoning.
- Livability: Parks, trails, and green space; heritage tourism; crime and safety; arts and culture development.
- Strong organizations: Volunteer recruitment and development; fund raising and budgeting; visioning; organizational development.
- Strong businesses: Attracting tourists; building loyal clientele; market analysis; marketing and cooperative advertising; supporting entrepreneurs.
