2012 Tacoma Bike Swap and Polo Exhibition

The 4th Annual Tacoma Bike Swap is this Saturday, April 28th from 10 am to 2 pm at the University of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. Vendors will be selling bikes and bike parts for all types of riding and for all age groups. From day to day riding accessories to the obscure part for your old English roadster, there is treasure to be found at the Bike Swap.

Highlights of the Bike Swap include:

  • $7 adult and children’s helmets and free helmet fittings sponsored by Downtown on the Go and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital Center for Childhood Safety
  • Free Intro to Bike Maintenance Clinics with REI at 11:00am and 12:00 pm.
  • A Cycling Themed Fashion Show at 11:30
  • Free Flat Repairs by Tacoma Bike
  • Bike registration in a national data base

A few vendor spaces are still open, and interested vendors need to register by emailing <txp:dtj_obfuscated_email email="bikeswap@cityoftacoma.org" mode="iso" /> . There is a small fee for indoor and outdoor vendor spaces. Individuals who want to sell one or two bikes don’t need to pre-register. They can just bring the bike and a lock and take advantage of the Bike Corral!

Even if you are not currently in the market for a bike, come on by to pick up great accessories, grab some lunch and enjoy the bicycle camaraderie at Pierce County’s largest bicycle event of the year. The Tacoma Bike Swap is part of Bike Month 2012 and is a collaborative effort of the City of Tacoma, Pierce Transit and Pierce County.

As an added bonus, there will be a bike polo exhibition match in the parking lot after the Swap, from 3 to 4 pm. There will be concessions provided and it will be a pretty informal, but high energy match between mostly local players. This is the first year that Bike Polo has been featured as an event as part of Bike Month. It should make for a great afternoon.
