3rd Annual 72 Hour Film Festival - May 10th

This just in:

The Grand Cinema’s 3rd 72-Hour Film Festival will take place at the Rialto Theater on Thursday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m.  If you haven’t made it to one of the past events, you are missing a great opportunity to see creative local films.  Here is how it works:  interested local filmmakers register ahead of time at the Grand.  On May 3 they will gather at the Grand for instructions on how to make their film.  They then have 72 hours to make a film of no longer than five minutes long.  The films are screened for the public at the Rialto on the 10th of May.  The event is a lot of fun and a great way to support local filmmakers as they improve their craft under a 72 hour pressure situation.

Tickets for the event go on sale at the Grand on Friday, April 13.  Tickets are $8 for members of the Grand and $10 for non-members.  Tickets will also be available at the Rialto on the night of the event.

Filmmakers: if you are interested in participating, please register early.  There is a limit of 30 teams in the competition and once we reach that number, no additional teams will be allowed.  The cost to participate is $50.  For that $50 you will receive five tickets to the event and a video of all the films screened at the Rialto.  Registered teams will gather at the Grand at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 for instructions making the film.  Last year each 5-minute film had to include a Tacoma park, include someone getting splashed, include the line of dialog “Well, you know what they say”, and include either binoculars, a telescope or a magnifying glass.  This year’s requirements will not be announced until May 3 so don’t start working on your film until you know what it needs to include!  There are awards for best film, best use of dialog, best use of other requirements and the audience award.
