3rd Annual Community Garden Summit

Tacoma’s third annual Community Garden Summit is coming up next Saturday, April 28.  Whether you’re new to the whole idea of community gardens, or have had a plot for years, you might want to check this out.  Maybe you’ll learn something new, and you’ll definitely get to meet other gardeners.  Free workshops will be offered for a variety of experience levels: beginning, advanced, campus and university, and youth workshops.  The event is hosted by Grow Local Tacoma Pierce County, the University of Puget Sound Sustainability Advisory Committee, and the Pierce County Gleaning Project.

Join us for this exciting day full of workshops, great food, and community to start the 2012 gardening season off to a great start. This is a family friendly event with activities for all ages and skill levels. Workshops will include basic and advanced gardening techniques and information, gardening in community, university and campus gardening, and children in the garden. This event will also focus on the “Share the Harvest” program to help connect Pierce County gardeners with local food banks. Plant starters and some seed will be given out to gardeners committed to sourcing a percentage of their harvest to food programs. Save the date for what is sure to be a great event!

I’m proud to be in a city that values community gathering places as unique as our gardens. Thank you to all that work to put this together!
