6th Ave Market Opens Today
The much anticipated 6th Ave Farmers Market opens today. We spoke to the market manager Heather and it sounds like it will be amazing. It will include a chef’s demo, music and Tacoma Mama along with 40+ of Washington’s best farmers with a full array of products including cherries, peaches, many berry varieties, cheeses, meats, poultry, seafood, flowers and much more. Organizers are expecting 2,000 people to attend opening day. Whew. Get there early for the best stuff.
To all the folks that worked so hard to get to today, congratulations!

Just got back from it. Pretty amazing for the first day. People were swarming in from many directions.

It’s amazing to see all the work that went into getting the market open! If people only knew what it took. I wish I could have been there to share in the first 6th Ave market. Boo to the work trip.
Thanks for the post, my 133 friends! It made me feel like I was home.

We ended up leaving early because our spot was blocked in and not really working for the kids. Next week, I’m told we’ll have a better position.
Overall though, the market looks great and I’m really excited to see so many vendors and such a great turnout.

I was there around 5 and couldn’t believe how lively it was. This is Tacoma?! Maybe we are finally growing up.
Favorite finds for me were golden raspberries (yum!) and Estrella cheese – possibly the most amazing array of cheese I’ve ever had. Easily worth the price. I’m looking forward to trying their aged cheeses when they are ready.

Yes, lively at the market. However I went into E9 as Tuesdays is my NTN (NTN Buzztime) night there, though I haven’t been in a few months. Crowded outside on the “deck,” deserted inside. Few of the regulars were there (Cassie, Cliff, etc). Based on the first farmers market I see no reason for E9 to support it taking over their business parking lot – I’m guessing they lost many regulars, and the farmers market folks didn’t wander in (yet). This can change as this is only the first market, but I sure didn’t see increased traffic at E9. And the weather was great.

I did go to E9 last night just because of the market. With the awfully slow service we received, I assumed it was much busier than nomal Tuesdays so they were understaffed. If that’s how the service is when they’re slower than normal, I’ll be sure not to return. Thanks for the info!

We went to E9 just because we were at the market and it was great. I loved having a beer in the sunshine watching folks go by. We saw at least 2-3 other parties come from the market as well. Our impression was that it would be great for E9!

It was a nice treat to swing by on my way home from work to grab an assortment of organic veggies to grill for dinner and a few trays of the best Marion berries ever. What was a great market – well run and with so much in a small area. I’ll be back weekly to try new things. Huzzah!

Props to the young ladies providing the music! Does their band have a name?

Hopefully this isn’t a repeat reply. I think I hit the wrong button or something.
Starstruck is the name of the band. Very talented kids.
