72 Hour Film Competition Underway!

If you see roving bands of filmmakers over the weekend, don’t be surprised. 32 teams are competing in the Grand’s 72 Hour Film Competition. Teams were given a set of criteria tonight at 10:00, and they have to have a 5 minute movie back to the Grand by 10:00 Sunday night.

The requirements for the films are:

It has to be shorter than 5 minutes.
Include a Tacoma landmark.
Use the line of dialogue “What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate”.
Use a hat or a cap.
And have an action shot of someone throwing, tossing, or dropping something.

It’s a great event for local artists—filmmakers in this case—who will get to show their work to Tacoma next Thursday at the Rialto Theater. If you’re interested in seeing the films, check it out Thursday, May 10, 7:00 at the Rialto. Tickets are $10 and $8 for Grand Cinema members.

And if you should be walking around town Saturday and hear someone shout “That’s a wrap!” you’ll know what’s going on.
