Tacoma City Business This Week

City business is easing its way back into action as we start off the new year.  There will not be a City Council meeting or study session this week, but there are a few things in the works, including negotiations with T.C. Broadnax to confirm his selection as Tacoma’s new city manager.

City Layoffs

The big news over the next couple weeks, of course, will be the status of the City’s budget-related layoffs.  City employees who received layoff notices the first week of December are set to be out of their jobs this week.  Next week we expect to hear the results of the external review of the City’s budget status, but that will be too late for the non public safety employees set to be laid off.  Meanwhile, the City and police and fire unions have been working on ways to save as many fire and police jobs as possible.  We won’t see the full story this week, but we hope to hear some news.

Metro Parks

Metro Parks is hitting the ground running in 2012, with public comment opportunities on the future of Manitou Community Center and more broadly, workshops on the updates to the Metro Parks strategic plan.  Read more on this week’s Metro Parks Public Meetings on Exit133.
