A Big Boat With Some Big Cranes Arrives in Tacoma

We received the press release this morning and saw the boat the moment we arrived in the office. Two of the world’s largest container cranes arrived in Commencement Bay at lunchtime today.
The 273-foot-high “super post-Panamax” cranes can serve a ship 24 containers wide, making the cranes among the world’s largest. Built by Shanghai-based ZPMC, the cranes will arrive fully assembled aboard the Zhen Hua 26, a special crane delivery ship.
The cranes are bound for Washington United Terminals, the Tacoma home of Hyundai Merchant Marine and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.
The Zhen Hua 26 will arrive with four cranes welded to its deck and will remain anchored in Commencement Bay until Wednesday, Jan. 28. This provides the best time for photography. The ship will then travel down the Blair Waterway to Washington United Terminals, where the two largest cranes will unload.
That’s one big boat.

I was on a Tacoma Regional Convention & Vistors Center Bureau tour this afternoon. When we got to Schuster Parkway, the tour guide pointed it out. I wish I had been home to see it pass Browns Point.

How do you get a crane welded to a ship off of said ship anyway?

So, just where within the United States were these cranes manufactured; it just follows, that these cranes would-of and did-help support our hurting manufacturing industries recovery—-its employees, communities, private business, local business, and contribute taxes paid to our government(s) for ‘Taxpayers’ our benefits we receive?
So again, where where these cranes manufactured that we see in this picture?

“Built by Shanghai-based ZPMC“
Like 99% of the mostly useless stuff in this country, they’re made in China.
Now just watch out for the 3” thick layer of lead paint on them…
