A Bit of Park Plaza North For Sale

The retail space that once (briefly) housed Gringo de Loco and was sporting the new Stephanie’s Gospel and Jazz sign just came on the market. From the listing:

6000 sq ft restaurant with seating for 120. Located next to Convention Center, Financial District, UW Tacoma Branch, Sounder, and new Glass Museum; Class I hood, walkin cooler, large second floor storage area with plumbing. Bar. 50 ft frontage on Pacific Ave. HVAC totally renovated/updated. Owner/Agent

Does this mean we won’t be seeing Gospel and Jazz in our neighborhood?

Oh – and by the way – to those City folks that will eventually renovate Park Plaza North – BUY NOW!

Update – From what we hear Stephanie’s has five more years on its lease. AND … it’s the first they’ve heard that the space is for sale. So check them out and support our local businesses.

Well that was quick. I thought the place would have a chance to be open for a couple weeks before it died the death that is apparently fated for any business in that space.

I dont know whats going on here, but last night I drove by the restraunt, and it was open. I went inside and met the owner, and they were having a private event, but they will be opening up.
He told me he had a 5 year lease, and the place was in horrible shape when he looked at the place. I have to agree, and I had only been in the place once before. It was discussting. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! The place has been remolded, cleaned up and feels like a place you drop some money @.
I dont know whats up with the FOR SALE thing, but congrats to the new owner, and welcome to neighborhood STEPHANIES JAZZ & GOSPEL!

P.S. Hey Derek!! You might want to get a hold of the new owner and get his story. I think it might be interesting.

Wait. So the owner is selling the space by talking about all the features of the restaurant without mentioning there’s 5 more years on the current tenant’s lease? Uhhhh. Is this business as usual in commercial listings? It feels slimy to me.

I would think that occupied with a 5 year lease would make it more attractive to a potential buyer. Most commercial property owners aren’t proprietors from what I have seen.

Yeah, they look to want to still open and they are doing far more renovation work than the prior business that stayed open a couple of weeks. I don’t think their dead yet.

So two months ago I got hired by this restaurant I turned down multiple other jobs, and waited patiently. I went to 6 hours of meetings, where they kept pushing back the date, and I have never been paid for that training or have answered my multiple messages. Whatever is going on there, from personal experience I can say that they are not very organized, and it will be interesting to see if anything actually happens. For myself I have been told so many conflicting tales I am happy to be out of the loop. don’t count on them opening or being there long though, they don’t know how to organize and treat their people!
