A Brief Exit133 Mention on NYTimes.com
Several months ago we met reporter Tina Kelley from the New York Times. She had an idea for local coverage that more closely resembled what we do than the business of the NYT. We compared notes for a while, then she headed out of town. Now, her work is finally appearing as she begins to cover Maplewood, New Jersey for the Times. Her blog went live today. In the middle of one of her first few stories, we came across this tidbit:
To prepare for this venture, I spoke with people at some of the best local news sites in the country. I was inspired by helpful and generous conversations with The Alternative Press, Get in the Loop, Maplewood Online and The New Haven Independent. In Washington State, where good sites seem to pop up like chanterelles in the Cascades, I borrowed the brains of Crosscut, Exit 133 in Tacoma, My Ballard, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, where I once worked, and the West Seattle Blog, as well as The Tacoma News Tribune, where I met Mark Briggs, author of “Journalism 2.0″. And Baristanet, Romenesko, and The Yarn Harlot taught me the joys of being a consumer of blogs early on.
Many of our friends are on this list. It’s good to see our little region being recognized.
Good luck, Tina.

Thanks Derek! Now if only we could find a Local person to Imagine Maplewood. Or Millburn. Or South Orange! You have great ideas. Thanks for telling me about them.

A little more coverage like that, and maybe 133 will finally get up to runaway freight train kinda velocity.
Or at least runaway steamroller. Now that would be smashing!
