A Few Notes From Pac Ave
We were meandering along Pacific Avenue the other day, and noticed a few little changes. The Camera Shop, a retail icon on Pacific Ave closed a few months ago as many of you may remember. Well, the front of the store has been blown out and they’re working hard to prep it for its new tenants. We asked what was going in. The answer? “Offices”. We even asked at the back door. “Offices”. Um. Okay. We’ll stop asking questions now …
A wee bit further down the street, Stephanie’s Gospel and Jazz has a sign. We feel like we were just here looking at a new sign …

That Camera Shop storefront needed some updating — it’s sandwiched between some nice looking buildings, especially the old Bank of California columns. (That building, incidentally, was going to become a wedding/reception venue called The Forum, which experienced horrible code problems with the city, who wanted all sorts of retrofitting to a historic building, and apparently it isn’t ever going to materialize.)
Hopefully that building is getting a nice new facade that will help compensate for its less-than-exciting new function as offices.

Not for a while yet. I doubt they’ll do anything to that garage until they finish with the other one, which still has a ways to go. If they’re smart they’ll also wait to make sure that its new format succeeds before jumping over to overhaul this one.

Are they really AAA or are they overexposed to Credit Default Swaps making them a possible BBB, CCC or even XXX.

FYI – the offices they are building will include replacing that old facade with a brick one, hopefully restoring some of the traditional urban fabric of this area.

If you check out the Camera Shop from the alley you can see the potential for a pretty nice facade restoration for the front of the building. Nothing spectacular, but it would be nice to see it restored to its former facade.
