A Fresh Coat of Paint For Murray Morgan Bridge?

According to a story in today’s Tacoma Daily Index, the City’s Landmarks Commission is considering a proposal to add some color to the famously aged Murray Morgan Bridge. According to documents recovered by the city, the bridge has been painted various earthy hues in the past; this time around, officials are considering black or silver.
The Landmarks Commission will meet to discuss the topic on Wednesday, March 23 at 5 p.m. at Tacoma Municipal Building North, 728 St. Helens, Room 16. Visit here if you’d like more information on the meeting and the Landmarks Commission. For more reading on the history of the preservation effort, see Exit133’s coverage here and here.
On a side note:
I once lived in a small mountain town where a cabled gondola system was installed to carry tourists to the top of a prominent foothill. The locals were concerned about the industrial flash of the new steel lift towers climbing the hillside, which contrasted sharply with the red and weathered face of the mountain. Engineers solved the problem by painting the towers with some kind of paint that quickly and safely oxidized. Soon, the towers acquired a more fitting ruddy tone.

rainbow colors!

Why not use paint that changes hue as the temperature changes? Not only is that awesome, but the bridge would also be an enormous thermometer.

Wasent it painted black at some point in its life already. silver would look good on it at night and even during the day. Now only if it were a functioning bridge again

Camouflage. Maybe it’ll entice the folks at Fort Lewis McCord to come up here more often and spend their money in town.

Can I paint sponge bob on the counterweights ?

There is temperature-sensitive paint, but not only is it expensive, but it’s range isn’t as much as I’d like and it seems they tend to be single-time events.
I think what would look striking would be a 2 color scheme. Maybe black & red or blue & white.

Black would be awesome! Portland has some black metal bridges of a similar style, and they look sharp. I did kind of like Thorax’s idea of red accents on black, too, although that’s even more Portlandesque (NBA Blazers).

How about Fire Truck Red? Evergreen Green (or EverGreen)?

Can’t paint it black. No one will be able to find it at night. Paint it pink.
