A New Brewery for Tacoma

Another brewery for downtown Tacoma? It looks like it's true. The Tacoma Daily Index reports today that Dunagan Brewing Co. has applied for permits from the City of Tacoma and the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

The location listed is 1126 Commerce Street (previously home to the now closed Shanghai House Chinese restaurant). A sign is up, and the Dunagan Facebook page shows signs of construction going on behind the papered windows.

The Dunagan website promises they will be "opening soon(ish). Calm yourselves! There's a lot to do ya know." A grand opening is planned, with the date to be determined. The "About Us" page has a story about an 1860s Dunagan family member and moonshiner, and explains a little about the new brewery's philosophy.

If you're reading this, then we're pretty sure that you enjoy original art andgreat craft beer as much as we do! We wanted to give our Pacific Northwest beer community something a little different so we've brought our sailing and Irish American customs in and are putting them right into our beers!

Come in and enjoy some crisp and clean Northwest styles mixed with Southern California craftsmanship. Once you're in you'll find great music, displayed artwork, wonderful locals and of course our unique, handcrafted and organic artisan beers that appeal to a range of tastes.

No word yet on what beers will be brewing at the new brewery, or if there is an estimated opening date.

This is great! I just wonder why all these brewers don't get together and locate really close to each other, like on the same two blocks, so they create a brewery district. It would seem their combined popularity would multiply their draw. That way so as there's a "place to be" if you're a big beer person. Just a thought...

"The storefront was previously occupied by Shanghai House, a Chinese restaurant, and Tacoma Cross, a medicinal marijuana shop." When did Jason Mewes start working in the city's economic development department? http://www.nndb.com/people/238/000027157/mewes-sized.jpg
