A New Life for Harry's Place
Our good friend Natasha at the Weekly Volcano reported this week that Harry’s Place and Big Nick’s Pizza in the McKinley neighborhood have closed their doors. A new life for the space will be provided by friend of a friend Jaime Kay Newton of Magoo’s fame. What’s in store for the place? The pizza place will become a deli. Harry’s will become the Top of Tacoma Bar and Grill. Our friends in the McKinley district are overwhelming thrilled. We’ll check it out this fall once the transformation is complete.

Just when I think Tacoma might be brushing itself off, I read and hear stories like this.

Somebody (condo developer) probably reported an abandoned vehicle and had it towed. You’ll know if you get a bill in the mail. Sorry bro, fate is a cruel mistress.

the sad fact is the clown who sold that lemon to you for $400 likely knew all about the head problems. If I were you id cross him off the trust list… maybe even send him a little PSYCHIC ATTACK!1!!

Daniel, if you had a neighborhood watch group, and you were the captain, it would probably be one of the coolest groups in town.

Everybody knows Japanese cars are made from recycled beer cans. Whoever took your Honda Civic did you a favor.
Anyway, you might be onto something with that gentrification ($100.00 word) theory. Some of the most vile predators that I’ve dealt with are those armed with money and lawyers.

RR Anderson has it right, there is a good likelihood you are going to be getting a towing and ~$75/day impound bill. The next step is a certified letter to the last registered address for the car (if no response that can sell it at auction, but you may still owe them the difference in impound fees, not sure). I recommend you be proactive on this to minimize the bill.
You can call the police business line and state you think your car was either stolen or towed from your house, and if towed they can put you in contact with the towing company.
You can probably offer the towing company the title in exchange for the fees – but make sure you get something signed that you don’t owe them any more money.

I heard that the girlfriend who purchased you a new starter broke up with you after your engine head finally warped beyond repair…
A Andrew March 26, 2008
Wait, you heard them breaking into your car? You heard the perpetrators in the middle of the act?
And you didn’t come rushing out waving a .38 Special in the air, maniacally firing warning shots?
Different worlds, I guess.

I’m really sorry that all of this has happened to you, Daniel.
If you ever need transportation, or someone who is not at all afraid of thugs or wannabes, you know how to reach me.
Again, I’m very sorry to read this, and let me know if you need support.

I have to agree with Andrew… but not quite with his reaction.
I too live in an area that has a…“unique” block watch program, but I’ll be the first to say that if somebody is bashing stuff up, it’s time to call the cops. Better not to have them waving the baseball bats at the people or pets that get in their way…
p.s. If you can find a copy of Barry Lopez’s essay “My Horse”, you’d like it.

We’ve had an abandoned Chevy sitting next to our house since Saturday. It’s yours for the taking if you want it. It needs at least 2 new tires but I think it comes with one of those fancy buzzing mufflers.

You have not called the police non-emergency line to have it towed yet?
J JRivera March 27, 2008
Yikes! I just moved into that neigborhood.
G grubedoo March 28, 2008
I’ve called the non-emergency line and the abandoned vehicles line. Both times police have visited the vehicle and even left a yellow piece of paper on the windshield, but alas it’s still there. Now it has a broken windshield.

“better a cruel truth than a comfortable delusion.”
