A New Theater For the Mecca?

The Mecca has a new tenant – at least temporarily. The TNT reported yesterday that downtown Tacoma’s favorite pr0n theater turned housing/office space will be home to the Gold From Straw Theater Company for at least the next two months.

Having toured the building at various stages of its demolition and remodel, we’re curious to see how this all works out.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

I like this idea and I hope it extends beyond the 2 months that are planned for. I’m not sure it can save the Mecca but it sure will be nice to have a little activity on the block. I commend the Gintz people for doing something very creative in this dismal economy.

I second Cren’s remark about the Gintz group innovation.

But what is a pron theater?

  • Lonergan April 2, 2010

According to wikipedia, a “pron theater” also known as a “prawn theater,” shows movies of naked shrimp, while patrons eat delicious chicken soup.

I lived in the Mecca for about a year and think the Broadway frontage is a primo space for something like this, it sounds great. Hopefully these guys wont encounter any of the issues we did in living there. I’m just glad to hear that space is going to be used, the dust was getting pretty heavy. I briefly used it as photography studio space and a painter was posted up in the back corner a few months ago when I left. That was the only real life in the place other than the (I believe) 2 other tennants upstairs. Ron was always surprisingly willing to let us make use of the space if we left it better than we found it. Wish this kind of life had been breathed into the place when I still lived there, would have enjoyed neighbors like that!

It should be a jazz club.

It once was jizz club, is that close enough?

    Naked JUMBO shrimp. Please.

    Jesse
I agree, Mothers bistro would be awsome. I seem to find myself there alot when I’m in Portland.

When I’m downtown in T-town on Sundays, I do enjoy wandering in to Paddy Coynes every now and then. Their breakfasts and bloody mary bar hits the spot.

Ya, breakfast at Paddy Coynes is pretty good. In fact, all their food is good. Have you tried the fries? Anyways, off subject, but Mothers brings the Eggs Benedict to a new level. I have sexy dreams about it… um… and also Gia Allemand… and the General Lee… or something…

Yes, I’m also a fan of what I can eat at Paddy Coynes. I don’t eat meat, but their veggie omelette thing is really good, and absolutely no meat in the bloody mary, so I can leave quite happy from there.

I, for one, hope they bring back the Mecca’s chicken soup vending machine. 4 out of 5 skeezed-out Tacoma judges prefer pron parlor vending machine chicken soup.
