Adopt A Church with Historic Tacoma

Historic Tacoma, in partnership with the Tacoma’s Historic Preservation Office, is sponsoring a survey of sacred places. This survey will provide a comprehensive citywide inventory of all pre-1965 religious structures.

Research volunteers are being sought to help with building histories for many of the churches, synagogues, and temples in the survey. Training will be provided. If you have interest in learning more about your neighborhood, your church, or even a favorite landmark, Historic Tacoma could use your help. Research sessions will start in late June and continue through the summer at the main branch of the Tacoma Public Library. Information obtained will be used in several projects, including a publication, a sacred spaces open house in the fall, and potential historic register nominations.
