Aerial Trams in Downtown Tacoma

Every once in a while, I’m surprised by the ideas that keep coming up in conversation.  “Oh, we’re still talking about that…”  The latest is in Dan Voelpel’s column today.  The Foss Waterway Development Authority is looking into building an aerial tram system between Fireman’s Park and Dock Street.  The goal is to have it up in time for the return of the Tall Ships in 2008.  A few thoughts:  Would we actually staff something like this at times other than big events?  Maintenance.  Would it actually move the volume of people necessary to make it useful during events?

We’ve seen this somewhere before

Just give me a zip line down and a trolley seat back up the hill and I’ll be happy.

Cool! Maybe we can pave some bike lanes with those funds.

$700,000 – free state keep jobs money (aka eric anderson memorial parking lot money)

$75,000 – for being sustainable or whatever that means.

How much do we need to buy soggy-bottom Old City Hall? Seems like we have free money raining down from the heavens like an off-code broken fire prevention system!

Each winning city will receive a $75,000 grant.

Tacoma could rent some fans to dry out Old City Hall with that money.

That money just paid for Eric Anderson’s raise or perhaps the money we gave to JayRay for creating a facebook and twitter for the paid parking.

A few curmudgeons on this board today I see. Not me, not on this one:

Great job to all who made this happen!

Yes! 1/3 the cost of streetcar. Stop at Foss waterway. Up from Foss to Fireman's Park. Up 9th to Commerce. South on Commerce. Loading station on Broadway's Theatre on the square. Continue south on Broadway. Up 11th Street. Stop at 11th and Tacoma Avenue. South on Tacoma Avenue with a stop at 19th and Tacoma Avenue. Final stop at 19th and MLK. I like it.
