Alternatives to the Craft Beer Festival
A Facebook post last weekend from the Tacoma Craft Beer Festival account drew quite a few comments.
Just so everyone knows , there will not be a beer fest this year, unfortunately, we were under attended and so many people refused to toss their tokens in the bins, the fest lost a fortune, maybe next year
It wasn't news to most that the festival wouldn't be returning after the controversy surrounding last year's event, but this confirmed that. We'll let you read the comments for yourself, if you're interested. Let's just say that some harsh words were typed.
The Craft Beer Festival is officially dead, leaving behind a bitter after taste for many Tacoma beer drinkers - and not the good kind of bitter, either. Fortunately there are some opportunities coming up to wash it all away.
On October 4 you can try out a new event on Tacoma's waterfront that will bring together three pretty good Bs - beer, bratwurst, and boats - for a one-day celebration/fundraiser for the Tacoma Waterfront Association, the Tacoma Youth Marine Foundation, and Citizens for a Healthy Bay.
The event will take place on the Foss Waterfront, directly behind the Museum of Glass. Organizers promise more than a dozen craft brewers, wineries, German food, and live entertainment. The incentive to purchase your tickets ahead is pretty good - $12 before the event, versus $20 at the door. Food and drinks are pay as you go. Ticket pick-up starts at 10:30 a.m., the gates open at 11:30, and close at 6 p.m.
The event is open to the public, and you're encouraged to attend by land, or by boat (boaters may get a free beer stein with moorage). The event post doesn't mention drunken sailors directly, but it seems implied...
On October 18 the folks over at the Washington Beer Commission bring you a celebration of the hoppiest of the hoppy. The event, to be held at Tacoma's Union Station, will feature a tasting of more than 50 IPAs from two dozen Washington breweries.
Tickets for the two sessions of the IPA fest (noon to 4 p.m., and 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.) will be for sale online beginning Thursday, September 11, at 10 a.m. Prices are $25 in advance, $30 at the door (if there are any left). Your ticket will get you eight four-ounce samples.
And of course we can't forget our local watering holes. The Harmon Tap Room has a whole week of Oktoberfest fun planned for September 29 through October 4, and Pint Defiance invites you to celebrate their second anniversary on September 13.
Oh, and there's this:
This is a good start, but there must be some other Oktoberfest events we're missing... What's on your calendar?
