Amazon.com: On Tacoma
In case you didn’t know, Amazon.com has used to have a call center in Tacoma. In their attempt to woo job candidates down to our little town, they have a description of our city on their website. This page comes up #1 on Google for Hip Urban Tacoma Ummm… I think somebody’s sixth grade daughter wrote it for them.
Tacoma is located on southern Puget Sound in western Washington. Like Seattle to the north and Olympia to the south, Tacoma is separated into many small communities. Ruston is an older residential neighborhood with water views, small parks, and quaint restaurants throughout. Stadium is the hip, urban community surrounding historic Stadium High School. The downtown area remains the urban center of the city, home of great waterfront restaurants, shopping, and arts venues.
Sounds fine. Except:
“Ruston is an older residential neighborhood…”
Tacoma is an older residential neighborhood and a lot of neighborhoods within Tacoma are older than Ruston. Now Steilacoom. That’s an older residential neighborhood.
”... with water views, small parks, and quaint restaurants throughout.”
Small parks… like Point Defiance? Am I missing a few restaurants?
“Stadium is the hip…”
It is? So if I eat wrecked eggs at the Harvester every Saturday for years (like I might have done…) would that make me hip?
“The downtown area remains the urban center of the city…”
Ignoring the whole mall incident that sucked the life out of downtown in the 1960s.
”...home of great waterfront restaurants…”
Johnny’s? The Museum of Glass cafe? How many other waterfront restaurants are downtown? Great? Name one “great” waterfront restaurant anywhere in Tacoma.
”... shopping…”
Barely.
”... arts venues.”
Yes. We do have arts venues downtown.
There’s more.
Thank you Jake for the Correction
