Another Hopeful Sign For the McMenamins Elks Project

A lot of us are eagerly awaiting the first real signs of progress on the McMenamins building. We want to see the doors unlocked, and guys in hard hats coming and going before we’ll really believe that the the old building is getting saved.
Well, no hard hats just yet, but as far as we know it’s still coming along. The latest we know comes from the McMenamins Elks Lodge page (although that page lists the opening as “late 2013,” and we’ve heard rumors that it may be 2014 before the doors open…).
Specific opening dates aside, the page has some great photos of the interior of the lodge. The crumbling interior walls of the grand old spaces, covered in graffiti, have a certain grotesque beauty to them. It’s clear from these photos that the McMenamins have their work cut out for them, but the page gives us just a little more confidence (knock on wood) that the project is indeed in the works.

Things are happening and it’s nice to see a photo of the “bones” of the building. Although the work will be intensive, I can see all the incredible potential. One question: Are they taking down that awful Monkey Puzzle tree?
