Another Plan to Save the Luzon?
The TNT is reporting this morning that the last minute buyer for the Luzon that appeared a few weeks ago may be back with a new plan to shore up and save the building. Serponak Construction Co. is asking the city to pay it the $200k that it would’ve otherwise spent on demolition in order to begin fixing the structure. The plan has the support of the Gintz Group who would sell the building to Serponak.
Demolition work begins next Wednesday. Any other proposal would need to be inked with work begun before then.
Check out the details in the story.

Perhaps Pierce County should pony up something in light of their serious neglect of the building when it mattered (aka, water pouring into the roof.).

CFRHTS (Citizens For the Restoration of Historic Thirteenth Street) objects to this plan.

Okay, all this talk about money and stuff, this isn’t really about saving the Luzon…Is it?

City of Tacoma should just make it a 2-fer and tear down the Luzon same day as the ribbon cutting, so everyone can have a good seat to watch. Any chance of the guys on skyscrapercity.com rolling video?
Also makes my nomination for The things that make you go hmmmmm…The intentionally-gathering-a-crowd-near-an-impending-disaster category.
City of Tacoma is so very concerned that the Luzon Building is going to fall over that it has been scheduled to be demolished September 25/26th. City of Tacoma is so happy that the South Park Plaza Garage is new, improved & green that a ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for September 22nd.
It’ll be great to see a sort of before and after skyline that afternoon.(Do you get a yellow hard hat if you go?)
