Are You Looking For Work?
Did the economy hit you hard? Are you serious about finding work? If so, Dick Dorsett is looking for a few good people to join him for his version of Job Club Tacoma. We’re supportive of the professionalism, structure, and focus that he’s looking to create. Interested? Definitely check it out.
What follows is the press release:
“Get off the couch and make finding your next job your full-time gig,” urges Dick Dorsett, founder of Job Club Tacoma. “If you’re ready to work five days a week for an employer, you need to commit as much effort to getting your next one. That’s why I started Job Club Tacoma.”
According to Dorsett, it’s easy to put off looking for work for “a thousand reasons.” The key, he explains, is to make looking for a job a full-time job in a professional environment.
Located in downtown Tacoma, Job Club Tacoma offers rented office space with a conference room, work space, Wi-Fi, a printer and a place for Job Club Tacoma participants to hang their hat or laptop. “It’s a place to meet every workday at 9 a.m. to huddle-up with 10 professionals who are as dedicated as you to strategize the job market and prepare to kick out all the stops and get hired now,” said Dorsett.
Job Club Tacoma is not a drop-in group, but designed for a team of 10 committed individuals ready to increase the quality and quantity of their search efforts and collaborate with like-minded professionals seeking employment. There is no fee for the services, but a subsidized fee for the office expenses is required.

“Get off the couch and make finding your next job your full-time gig“
And what’s wrong with being on the couch? I’m fortunate enough to have a recession-proof job for once in my life. BUT if I was laid off, I’d be finally finishing my novel, among other things.

@Thorax
Do you have a title for the unfinished opus?
T Thorax O'Tool June 18, 2009
Yep! The current working title is
Lost Soul’s Club

Wait, I thought Job Club Tacoma already exists! I mean, I remember starting it in December 2008. It meets at the Parkway Tavern every Wednesday at 1 pm, and has a blog at job-club dot org. Dorsett has a good idea and good intentions, but maybe should use a different name?

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work.

For some reason, 10 people getting together in an office environment seems like it would be more productive than sitting in a tavern in the middle of the afternoon. Granted, I’d rather be at the tavern, but still…

So what happens when everyone “gets hired now?” No more Job Club?
Someone should start a club for those of us on unemployment.

rented office space
Does this mean he’s looking to charge for the privilege?
If so, it sounds a lot like co-working, just with a jobs focus. In that case, why not just get some Suite 133 space lined up? I hear there are progressive individuals who may hear of things coming down the pike.

In that case, why not just get some Suite 133 space lined up?
That’s exactly what they’ve done. They’ll be using the Suite’s resources. We won’t provide the programmatic side of things, but we will provide the space. The individual “charge” is relatively minor versus our normal rate for Suite133. The rate is discounted for the group and is mostly subsidized by some folks and organizations in the community.

How much is the fee to the individual?
D Dan Dreiberg June 22, 2009
I’m serious about finding a job. Desperately serious.
I have nearly no computer skills, but I can weld or fabricate nearly anything. Is there anything your club can offer me? I’m a blue collar man through and through. Or this this white-collar only?
D Dick Dorsett June 22, 2009
Cost for the individual? $75 a month. A bargain. Call me if you’ve got questions about the club or how we arrived at the amount.
