Art On The Ave - Tomorrow!

Art on the Ave returns to 6th Avenue for its 12th year tomorrow (Sunday, July 11) from 11:00am until 5:00pm.

Several 6th Avenue businesses will participate in the arts attractions and activities, which will include live music at Jazzbones, O’Malleys, SAX, and a kid-friendly stage near Cedar Street. The Venue Under the Trees (a shady spot in front of 6th Avenue Baptist Church) will return to feature dance events, while the Dunk Tank will once again soak local politicians and business owners.

As in previous years, booths for food vendors, artists, and non-profit organizations will line the street. Attendees will also be able to witness art in progress, as local artist Chelsea O’Sullivan paints a mural on the west wall of Crown Bar with a group of students from Jason Lee Middle School. For sports enthusiasts, there will be skateboarding demonstrations and a visit from Tacoma’s Dockyard Derby Dames.

Art on the Ave is a great excuse to enjoy the sunny weekend while supporting local arts and 6th Avenue businesses. In a neighborhood notable for its many restaurants and bars, it is not difficult to find a place to relax with creative cuisine and beverages. There will also be 4 beer gardens to choose from (The Red Hot, SAX, Jazzbones, O’Malleys), so expect to find me intensely contemplating which to visit first.

It seemed a lot less crowded this year. Too bad, it was a lot of fun as usual. Really great bands, cool crafts and watching Chelsea paint the wall for a while was worth it. (not at all like watching paint dry)

Vixen’s had some great deals, the new Caffee Dei has really good pastries and coffee. I’m not sure it was publicized as much as years past.

Hey Daniel it would be interesting if you could report what the 20 year old conversations coming out of 40 year old mouths were at the 4 whole beer gardens to choose from. Nevermind, I can imagine.

I went and had a great time. Got a pretty bad burn on the part of my chest just below my neck. I guess I’m paler than I thought.
