Art + Spoken Word at Tully's Tonight

Last night Djembe Soul (1126 Commerce) held its weekly Free Ya Mind event, featuring hip hop artist The Initiate and open mic.  Around fifteen people showed up, including a TNT photographer and five or six artists, experienced and new spoken word artists, and a guitarist/pianist who balanced The Initiate nicely with some instrumental improvisation.  All-around a worthy event to revisit, especially considering the ready availability of catfish and peach cobbler.  We’re talking about community in Tacoma, and this place lives it – the advertised cover of $5 melted into a living room party for newfound old friends.

Tonight, according to host Stella, spoken word will unite with visual art at Tully’s downtown, 7-9 PM.  Coffee.  Art.  A dose of Tacoma’s voices.  It’ll be a good place to hide from the rain.
