Big Box Moratorium Meeting
If there’s anything you want to say to the Planning Commission about Tacoma’s moratorium on retail developments 65,000 square feet or larger, you’ll want to make it to today’s meeting. Commenting will be limited to the need for and duration of the moratorium, and comments will not be taken on any potential changes to regulations on large-scale uses.
All this debate may ultimately turn out to be moot when it comes to the proposed building of the Walmart store on the Elks property on South Union, due to questions surrounding the timing of the publication of the moratorium and submission of the Walmart development application. Nevertheless, there’s no time like the present, and we hold out hope for the possibility that the conversation this time can produce results that move beyond continually doing our planning in the rear-view mirror.
