Blue Mouse Birthday Party
The Blue Mouse is the has the longest continually operating movie house in Washington, and it’s right in Proctor. We’re fans for a weekend matinee at a good price, in a theater that’s a throwback to when we were kids. This old house is throwing an 85th Birthday bash and its going to be quite the party.
The venerable Blue Mouse turns eighty-five on Thursday, November 13, and the owners are planning a bit of a blowout to celebrate. The birthday bash begins at 6 pm with Pearl Django performing live jazz while attendees enjoy wine, refreshments, and generous appetizers prepared by the Old House Café. The Blue Mouse projectionist will then treat guests to rare showings of 2 hilarious Buster Keaton short flicks from the 20’s, “One Week”, and “Sherlock, Jr.” During breaks in entertainment, there will be numerous drawings for fabulous door prizes, including free year-long movie passes to the Theatre. The ‘Blue Mouse’ will blow out birthday candles and (cheese)cake and other sweets will be served. The festivities will go until about 9 pm.
Anyone have great memories of the Blue Mouse?

Ah, the memories. I grew up in the North end of town. As a Jr. High student in the early 80’s all of the us kids would gather at one friend’s house to walk over to the Bijou, as we knew it. We could see a movie for a $2!! Quite affordable on a babysitters wage. I think I saw “Purple Rain’ there 7 times. (it was the 80’s!)
Once we were in High School, we continued to visit the theater. One night some of the guys snuck beer into the theater. Someone dropped their bottle and it rolled, on the concrete floor, all the way to the front of the theater. The sound was recognizable to all in the theater. I still marvel that we were never kicked out.
