Bocce in Fern Hill Tomorrow - Aug 7th

On Thursday August 7th, we will continue our tour of the neighborhoods with a trip to Fern Hill. We’ve never tried to play bocce there before, but we’ve visited. There’s grass, some good little businesses, and opportunity for food and drink. So … we’re going to Fern Hill.

If you haven’t been there before, aim for South 84th and Park.

For those that don’t know, Exit133 has been visiting the neighborhood business districts all summer. After eating, drinking and/or shopping at some of the local businesses, folks play a quick evening of bocce in one of the district’s local parks. There are prizes each week for the winner. There will be a bigger prize for the points leader at the end of the summer.

Regarding last week … Job Carr park was an absolutely amazing venue. Justin pulled away with a dominating win over Doug (the gorilla from South 5) and Derek. Will he do it again this week?

Current Standings

#1 Justin (16 points)

#2 Derek (12 points)

#3 Rick (11 points)

#4 Aaron (10 points)

#5 Mike H (9 points)

#6 Ann (6 points)

#7 Whitney (5 points)

#8 Doug (3 points)

#8 Rob (3 points)

UPDATE
We’ll be playing in the Fern Hill School fields on South 84th Street. Balls start rolling at 6:30. As far as food and drink goes … if they’re open, we’ll be stopping by the Fern Hill Cafe first. Otherwise, we’ll probably be finding food after the event.

Fern Hill rules. I’ve been dreaming about doing an infill project of the empty parking lot at the corner of 84th and Park for, oh, about the past 8 years.

As the Wikipedia entry for Fern Hill notes, the neighborhood has one of the highest concentrations of parks in the city. There are no fewer than three parks within a few blocks of the neighborhood center.

Plus, I may get to kick some ass in bocce for the first time this summer because I have to be in Tacoma tomorrow night. My only excuse for not being there is that my girlfriend may not want to play.

Sorry, can’t make it this Thursday.

Derek, epic game last week (my bocce set has some awesome battle damage). Looking forward to a rematch.

    Have fun guys.

Luckily, I rode by there yesterday, so I know where it is.

What’s the best spot to meet for a pre-bocce fermented beverage?
