Broadway Center to Get Pantages Back
The Broadway Center for the Performing Arts is set to regain the long term management contract for the Pantages. The arts group maintained month to month contract since last year when the city’s coup effectively overturned the group and sent its ED, Eli Ashley, packing. The city put the management contract up to bid and three arts groups applied, including the Broadway Center. The News Tribune reported this morning that City Manager Eric Anderson has picked the Broadway Center to once again take the helm of the facility.
Looking back at how this whole event took place, it appears to me that Eli and the Broadway Center was in a thankless and powerless position. When finger pointing starts, if one group owns the building and the ground beneath it, my guess is that the debate will never be fair and the owner will win. Merely a thought.

The city is concerned about the level of tax revenue available for city spending and sells the MLK library to a nonprofit organization thus assuring that it won’t be contributing any property taxes.
I guess we’ll have to hit up Uncle Sam for another emrgency grant to underwrite our unsustainable city “plan.”
