Camp 6 Logging Museum May Not Re-Open, Lacking Funding

Last week, it was announced that the National Railway Historic Society would no longer manage Camp 6, the logging museum in Pt. Defiance Park (TNT article here). The ownership of the park remains with Western Forest Industries Museum (WFIM), which leases the site for the exhibit from Metro Parks. Unfortunately, WFIM does not presently have the funding to re-open the museum at winter’s end.

Full story in the Seattle PI here.

Visits to the deteriorating museum have declined drastically in recent years, and Metro Parks is not currently in a position to assume responsibility for Camp 6. Many of the key exhibits on the site require extensive maintenance, which doesn’t seem to be forthcoming. Grants have been difficult to come by, despite the steady volunteer effort that has kept Camp 6 alive for years.

Just as the Mayor declared the closing of libraries an “Opportunity” in her first State of the City Address, we or they should see this as an opportunity to call the museum closing an “Opportunity”

Perhaps there is no better time than now to begin re-branding, re-visioning or as I like to think of it re-imagining our history of clear-cutting… as maybe a “Ecological Holocaust Museum” the deterioration of equipment from that bygone era of steam and horrific environmental crimes will only add to the spookiness of the pace! And what a fantastic contrast to our GREEN city!

    I sense a tacomic!

i sense the lotsos are just pissed another ‘sacred’ piece of white face history is going exactly according to that which it sowed. seriously though RR. i think it’s time to animate the tacomics…and make more money. this installation would be rightly scored with tacoma’s anthem: lou reed – perfect day

so not a good place to look for monkeyballs. well, once the iraq/afghanistan baby boom reaches the odd years of highschool it’ll be a great place for them to hang out and bite each other in the neck because no doubt that the tweenlight franchise will be a classic cult film to the area and what better place to pretend you are cool and not get bothered by adults trying to get you to work a job in federal way than at an old derelict park hangout. not long before some one takes a can of paint and adds 66 to camp 6. at least thats how it was done in the 90’s.

Yes let’s just forget history. Not like there is anything we can learn from it. We didnt need the Luzon either right?

i know plenty of history about the region like vampires and werewolves are two diametrically opposed forces. and how did i learn that? not from camp 666. and i also know that stadium high used to be a hogwarts chain
