Car Commercial to be Filmed on Sunday

We’ve received word that a flyer has started appear on the doors of downtown Tacoma businesses along Pacific. What does it say? That there will be a film crew in town on Sunday and that some roads will be closed so that they can shoot a “Car Commercial”.

On behalf of the producing company, Boxer Films and the crew of a new “Car Commercial” we would like to offer our thanks to you and your neighbors for the opportunity to film in your neighborhood. On Sunday – July 13, 2008 we will be filming scenes in and around Tacoma.

We will be filming car-to-car driving shots in and around the Central Business District. This area will include the streets between A Street and Pacific to the East and West and between 8th St. and 13th Street to the North and South. Traffic will be controlled by Tacoma Police (ITC) as we drive on loops throughout this area. The work here will take place from approximately 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Please indulge our request that there be no parking in front of “NO PARKING” barricades in this area at this time

Our city seems to be rather popular for these car commercials. We watched one being shot on UWT last year. We’ve heard of others around town. I’m glad our empty weekend streets are good for something …

(Thank you, Todd)

Any word on what car company this is?
It’d be interesting to watch the final product and see how they treat our fine city.

For once in my life, I’m interested in seeing a commercial… did hell just freeze over?

I never did see the Mercury Milan commercial that was shot last year but have seen a Jeep commercial shot downtown. I believe the Jeep loops around the Bostwick Building.

I just got word that they won’t be filming a scene on the 5 Mile Drive.

That was my first thought too. When will we see another movie filmed here is what I want to know. Wasn’t the last one eons ago? Was it 10 Things I Hate About You?

I live in the Cliff Street Lofts (shameless plug: currently selling loft #206, check it out @ http://www.inspiredbyrealestate.com/index.html) & last week during Tall Ships I met a man checking out the area for Lexus car commercial for a film crew from LA. So my guess is you will see Lexus’s going around in circles Sunday. Maybe I’ll so an open house!!

on Sunday they’ll be looping around Antique row and up Whore Alley….according to the notice taped to my door. I guess I’ll close up, and sit outside in an aluminum chair and watch ‘em, with a big jug of wine and my dog, Killer.
It’s a bit of fun my block brings me…..almost makes up for the parking tickets the Parking Witch is giving me.

I run from the witch my self.

I saw them shooting on Pacific a bit earlier today. Maybe someone will post pics.

What street is the street you refer to as ‘Whore Alley’?

  • tressie July 14, 2008

Opera Alley…an oh so cute name for sexual abuse…it was an area for brothels….I don’t care that they acknowlege brothels, I just never agree with romantization of prostitution…(and I’m not a feminist).
and I was inside my store working, tho closed, until 5 pm…Lying Liars! I saw nothing but a cop pull over a speeder! Waah! I want my 15 seconds of fame!

I did not know opera alley was known for brothels. How did it come to be known as opera alley?

And the commercial filming didn’t happen? Well Tressie, at least you had a jug ‘o wine.
