Celebrate Repeal Day - 75 Years!

We were reminded today by the benevolent owner of a local pub that today is a great day to head out to your corner drinking establishment and celebrate your constitutional right to … hang out and drink in your corner drinking establishment. Why? Do you remember the 18th Amendment? No? Well, it reads something like this …

THE 18TH AMENDMENT
RATIFIED JANUARY 16, 1919
After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.

Now that doesn’t sound like much fun. But, today is the 75th Anniversary of the ratification of the (much more fun) 21st Amendment:

THE 21ST AMENDMENT
RATIFIED DECEMBER 5, 1933 The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.

What better opportunity to head out to your favorite watering hole and buy your friends a round. Heck, buy a stranger a round. And, don’t just settle for the same old favorite. Take the day to stretch your mixicological experience and toast with a classic vintage 30’s cocktail. Try a Gimlet or a Rusty Nail, Singapore Sling or maybe even a Sidecar. It challenges the bartender to a memory test and you usually get to watch them play with that shiny shaker thingy. Just stay away from anything in a bath tub.

Read the history then do some research

Cheers!

(Always drink responsibly, know your limits, and Never, EVER drink and drive. That’s just being stupid.)

    Such choices…

Ever notice how Sloe Gin isn’t used that much anymore?

Maybe I’ll have a Sloe Gin Fizz.

That reminds me, I have to pick up some seltzer and a few of those tiny little umbrellas.

I think it’s been 18 years since my last rusty nail. Those were the days.
