Changes at 601 St. Helens

Received via email:

“Some pink signs went up at 601 St Helens (next to the Prium development) indicating a garage sale. The owner of this property reportedly has lived in the basement and has been unwilling to sell or even rent out his building until now. It looks like the guys daughter has stepped in and leased the place to an architect – I forgot to write down the name – it was one of those easy to remember names until it comes time to remember it. So while I would have preferred to see a restaurant/cafe/retail go in – I am happy that it will at last recieve some TLC and hopefully contribute to the area instead of detract.

I know Prium wanted to buy the building and probably tear it down to make their project even larger, but I like seeing that white building with a little balcony on the upper floor.

I’ll save you the curiosity- there isn’t anything worth seeing on the inside. It’s very raw, slightly trashed, and there’s used restaurant equipment everywhere. I guess the old man was/is a pack rat. The stuff doesn’t even work!”

I’ve always liked that building.
