Cheney Stadium Remodel - Still in the News
Well, it looks like the Cheney Stadium project saga has yet another chapter. We read in the The News Tribune this weekend that former project manager Richard Melvin is contesting his termination last May. The suit appears to hinge on whether or not Mr. Melvin was a protected employee at the time of his termination, and whether or not he was aware of his status.
“Because Mr. Melvin was an unclassified (at-will) employee, the city is not required to establish cause for his termination and any claims of wrongful termination are not cognizable,” [Deputy City Attorney Jean] Homan added. …
“Nobody ever explained to me or told me that I was giving up my rights as a civil-service employee,” said Melvin, who had worked for the city in various jobs since 2003. “The only thing that I was told was that I would become a non-represented employee.”
The stadium project may have jumped the shark some time ago, but it appears that the plot line will be limping along for at least another season.
