Chihuly in the MoG Hotshop

Last night we found ourselves at the Museum of Glass. We turned the corner toward the front door and passed the elevator just as its door opened. Ack! Chihuly! A quick shuffle step and we were in the museum. Safe. I think South 5 has had a lasting impact on me…

So, we were at the museum for the premier of the latest Dale Chihuly documentary, Chihuly in the Hot Shop. It’s a 90 minute film showcasing Chihuly’s week long visit to the Museum of Glass in 2006.

Dale introduced the film. It was mesmerizing. We watch as the team works with such greats as Williams Morris, Lino Tagliapietra, Dante Marioni, and others in the hot shop cone. Each day in the film seems to look toward a different style in Chihuly’s history. The music sets a good beat as glass is blown. Glass spins. Glass breaks. Colors appear.

The DVD and accompanying book are now for sale in the Museum of Glass gift shop.
