Children's Museum of Tacoma To Go Pay-As-You-Will in 2011

At today’s Power of Play lunch, the Children’s Museum of Tacoma announced a 14 month, $7 million fundraising campaign. This past spring the Children’s Museum signed a contract to lease 8,700 square feet on the first floor of the United Way building at 1501 Pacific Avenue. The campaign will:

  • Open the doors to an all-new museum
  • Eliminate financial barriers to attendance by offering Pay as You Will admission
  • Sustain the Museum’s free early learning program, Play to Learn, in the community

At the lunch, Columbia Bank announced a gift of $50,000 in support of the We Play Campaign, bringing the initial amount raised from the Museum’s Board and other long-time Museum supporters to $1.4 million, 20% of the campaign goal.

It was an amazing event. We were able to check out the new address today – before the walls start coming down and the imaginative new spaces take shape. We look forward to seeing the museum when it’s all built out and ready to play in 2011.
