City Council Meeting - May 20, 2008

We had a full agenda tonight, but at the end of the session we were left scratching our heads. What happened? Lots. But you wouldn’t know it from the length of the meeting.

  • Roger Olsen presented the Mayor with a plaque celebrating the centennial anniversary of the Great White fleet visiting Tacoma from the Navy League of the United States, Tacoma council. The Great White fleet was sent on an expedition to visit many ports around the world. Their appearance was a huge event. A precursor to Tall Ships?

  • The Mayor proclaimed May 21, 2008, Relatives Raising Children Day, recognizing people parenting children who are not their own because of difficult circumstances.

  • Mike Slevin received the proclamation of May 18- 24, as Public Works Week, in recognition of the important work done by the public works department.

  • All of the resolutions on the agenda passed. Very little discussion.

All in all, a quick meeting.

Are we missing anything? No we're not missing anything. Councilman Thoms is finally giving Tacoma what it needs Tacoma what it really needs....more studies, more research, more committees, more bureaucracy, more staff requirements, more signage, more solar power, more laws.....utopia is finally within our grasp!
