City Manager Search - Update
By this time tomorrow we may know who our new City Manager will be. And the field has narrowed. Yesterday afternoon, Craig Malin of Davenport, Iowa withdrew his name from consideration. According to a report in The News Tribune, he has decided that the position isn’t a good fit for him. So we’re left with three candidates. Current interim City Manager Rey Arellano, Lakewood City Manager Andrew Neiditz, and San Antonio assistant City Manager T.C. Broadnax.
The City is remaining vague at this point, saying that there may be a vote to fill the position at tonight’s City Council meeting, but that the Council may also “decide to continue their consideration of the finalist qualifications and make their final decision at a later date.” We’ll have to wait to see what they decide, but if it was up to you to choose between the three remaining candidates, what would your vote be?

Without a doubt, it would be Broadnax at this point. The job is too big for Neiditz or Arellano. Additionally, Arellano is Anderson-tainted by association. Frankly, the Council needs to send their consultant and back to the drawing board and keep at it until the perfect candidate emerges. Settling for 2nd best is not an option.
