City of Tacoma Launches TacomaCrime.org

The City of Tacoma launched TacomaCrime.org on Monday. The City Council was updated on the launch and briefed on the background of the project in today’s Study Session.

The website is a crime-mapping service (provided by CrimeReports.com) that will be updated nightly via a data feed from LESA (Law Enforcement Support Agency). It is the latest public safety effort to result from the City’s Safe & Clean initiative, and is meant to address frustration over a lack of up-to-date crime information. The website is intended to be a “one-stop-shop” for crime data and crime prevention activities.

The information reported is primarily qualify of life crimes like breaking and entering, burglary, and car theft. There are other categories available on the service, but the City has chosen to not report every crime.

On the heels of this successful launch, the City now begins its public relations campaign and will be heading out into the community to provide demos and more information.
