Clay Huntington Way?

A public hearing is planned next week for the proposed naming of Huntington Way, in honor of long-time sports writer and broadcaster and KLAY 1180-AM owner Clay Huntington. The street proposed to be renamed is a section of South Cheyenne Street from the corner of South 19th Street near the Heidelberg Davis Complex to the entrance of Cheney Stadium. No residences are located on the proposed road, eliminating one of the major obstacles to the renaming of a road.

The proposed name change would honor Huntington’s years as a local broadcaster, and is fitting as KLAY broadcasts Tacoma Rainiers games. Huntington was also involved in establishing a number of …, including the Tacoma Athletic Commission, the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame, and the Washington State Sports Hall of Fame, and in the building of the Heidelberg Park sports complex and the stadium in which the Tacoma Rainiers play their home games.

The hearing for the name change will take place next Wednesday.

When: Wednesday, January 11th, 5:00 p.m.
Where: Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market Street, Room 248

That is a no brainier to rename S. Cheyenne St. to Huntington Way.

A most appropriate tribute to one of Tacoma’s best-ever supporters of youth and sports, particularly baseball.

This would be a great thing to do for an iconic sports figure. What a wonderful man!

The City has a perfect opportunity to one of the most significant individuals in the history of youth, amateur, and professional sports in Tacoma. Please don’t drop the ball on this one.
