Coffee and Rhetoric Begins in February

In what I consider to be a very exciting addition to our city’s ongoing internal conversation, Coffee and Rhetoric, a new ‘live talk show’ series, is set to begin in February at Cutter’s Point.

Coffee and Rhetoric is a live weekly talk show in TACOMA. Each week, we bring together two diverse and intriguing Tacoma characters who may not necessarily see things eye to eye, and hold an open discussion on the subjects that matter in our city. A new musical guest will join the show each week both as a co-host, and to perform a song or two as the mood strikes…. We’ll be serving up a cup of stimulating conversation with a lump of edge and asking you to participate. The idea is to identify problems, conflicts, miscommunications, or new ideas, and bring out those who can do something about them as guests in an attempt to find answers and solutions and just stimulate the cerebral cortexes of this fine city. Discussions are open ended and audience members are encouraged to participate in and direct the conversation. But don’t worry, this is most certainly no City-Hall meeting.

While many of us feel like conversations are beginning to occur that may help with change in our city, there still seems to be an age gap.  Who is engaging our young folks and trying to rally them toward a better Tacoma?  This series may begin to bring together several generations of leaders in a single place and start the dialog we need.  Julie from urbanXchange is leading the effort.  We ran into her yesterday and learned much more about this project.  After hearing the details, we’re excited and Exit133 is looking to help… although I still question my hipness.

    Glad they’re not closing.

I may not be a coffee drinker, but I do enjoy their coffee-free chai latte.
