Coffee and Rhetoric for Feb 15th

Coffee and Rhetoric is turning out to be quite an informative, educational, and entertaining series.  On deck for this week is the always amazing Lynn DeNino who is set to talk about the development of the Tacoma arts community.  I had heard of a potential second guest, but I don’t know if it was ever confirmed.  Check it out.  It should be good.  Join the conversation.

May have to check it out again.

I understand some regulars bought the place already! Caesar and a partner is what we were told over breakfast this morning. Things are not expected to change fast or drastically. I fell like we got lucky.

    That certainly was quick!

A great man named Caesar saved Shakabrah. Caesar and his family are amazing people (they are always smiling), so let it be known, the cafe is in good hands. Go and support it.

A couple notes for Shakabrah – I’m glad you’ll be staying open, we used to come for evening breakfasts when I was in school at UPS. Until I heard that Shakabrah staff boasts about spitting in all UPS students’ food. Then I never went again. Of course it could just be one of those rumors but it was enough to scare me off.

I did many years in food service and while I’d do stuff like upping the fat content and skimping on the good stuff, I’ve always considered doing hazardous things to be off limits – even to the most awful of customers.

Please don’t paint a whole group with the same brush. Boy do I know there are some miserable UPS students. But there are plenty of nice, honest, good people who go to school there.

Also notice the part about how we would go there in the evenings. It’s a good time to be open. People can come for breakfast dinner…

Best of luck. I’d been wondering why the place has been so dark every time I went by – I had been hoping that I could go get a clean meal now that I’m not a UPS student…

Nikki – don’t mention your name when you go.

Brent: A great man named Caesar…Julius, Syd, Little, Cardini???

Are you the B. H. that is a drummer and teaches at Cedarcrest?

You know what, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to avoid a place that has bragged about spitting in food.

I’m always polite when I go to restaurants. I treat the employees like real people (whereas some treat them like crap) I say please and thank you. I tip well. I don’t deserve to have my food covered in spit just because I am affiliated with a certain school.

Does that school have some snotty rich kids who drive new Beamers, have never worked a day, and treat everyone like they were put on the earth to serve them? Yes. Are those types the majority? Far from it.

All I was saying is that a staff attitude like that can contribute to the downfall of a place.
