Comic Book Ink is Leaving Tacoma
When we first considered this story, I realized that I couldn’t do it justice. I needed another perspective that could explain the intricacies of the subject … so I went to local cartoonist and CLAW No. 2, RR Anderson. Here are his thoughts:
It was Carl Sagan who said if you want to make a strawberry rhubarb pie from scratch you must first invent the universe. Carl Sagan failed to specify just which universe. Marvel Universe? D.C. Universe? Some unnatural crossover universe?
Greetings true believer! What if I told you there was one such marketplace of ideas created specifically for lovers of fantasy/science-fiction sequential art; a place you can go to seek real-time, satisfying answers to life’s little conundrums… like for example: Who would win in a fight: Wolverine or Spider-man? Or maybe you just want to go someplace that has plenty of scantily clad buxom figurines worth an ogle or two? She Hulk? Hello nurse!
Anyway come AUGUST 1ST TWO THOUSAND AND TEN A.D. you TOTALLY WILL NOT be able to go to that place anymore unless you drive to the horrible nightmare City of Lakewood. That’s right, Comic Book Ink is leaving Tacoma. Just like the evil gangster Frank Russell Investment corporation with one modest difference being namely Comic Book Ink didn’t do any cute ‘kiss my lovely bottom please’ burlesque show dance about it. No obscene Eric Anderson Free Parking Lot gifts… no Tacoma City Council tax breaks raining down from above. Our dreams of an International Comic Book Services District come to a violent end, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.
As a representative of the Cartoonists League of Absurd Washingtonians (The CLAW) we wish Comic Book Ink owner John Munn long life and prosperity in his new location at the Lakewood Regal Cinema Stratofortress. Right now he is live tweeting the move and you can follow along in the adventure from the safety and comfort of your own cubicle.

To put it as simply as I can, I love Tacoma. I was born and raised here…and there is no other place, that I can think of, that I want my family to continue to flourish in.
My shop, COMIC BOOK INK, has also grown up in Tacoma for the last 8 years and it never occurred to me that by becoming the neighbor to the Lakewood Regal Cinemas (a company that we have done over 10,000.00 in charity work with) that I would not be IN Tacoma.
When I went to get my business license, I discovered that if I were to walk across the street from our new home at 2510 S. 84th… I would be IN Tacoma! In fact, Tacoma Mall Boulevard ends right at the Cinema Complex. The good news is we get to grow bigger with this space, become more visible and expand the charity work that we do. We also grow from being Tacoma’s Oldest and Largest Comic Book Shop to…PIERCE COUNTY’s Oldest and Largest Comic Book Shop. And that…that sounds like a really cool thing.
PS—Love the D.B. COOPER style political cartoon, RR! Its the first time I have been satirized in such a medium!

While it sicks that you’re moving even farther from me, if the move is good for your business then godspeed to you.
However, you’re not thinking big enough. “Tacoma’s Oldest and Largest”. Not bad.
“Pierce County’s Oldest and Largest”. Good, but it doesn’t roll off the tongue.
How about:
“The South Sound’s Largest”? Sounds more impressive.

The “I am moving away from Tacoma” is becoming it’s own literary genre in this city.

Yes. . . lots of shiftless gen-Xers with disposable incomes waiting round 4 Hollywood superhero movies 2 start. John Munn your new location should be a perfect fit… almost TOO perfect.
Stowe’s old lady commented on my facebook that your new location would actually be less of a drive. Sooo i suppose it all works out in the end.
(still should have tried for some handouts though!)

You are not being pushed out of Tacoma, RR, like Daniel Blue was? Being a writer for E133 has a tendency to get you pushed out of Tacoma.

First off, RR needs to write more stuff for Exit 133.
Second, Lakewood is not a “city”. It’s a suburb of Tacoma and should be annexed. I mean, c’mon, does a legitimate city have a city hall at the mall? Where’s the DT???
