Coming Soon...

We’ve noticed a couple of “coming soon” signs around town in the last week: one for the Triple Play sports/music/food bar in the 6th Avenue space previously occupied by Gruv, more previously occupied by Hell’s Kitchen.  The writing on the windows promises “coming soon?” (their question mark, not ours).  We’ve heard a rumored opening date of June 15, and there was definitely work being done when we drove by a couple days ago.  The remodeled space will be set up as a sports bar with typical sports bar food, but they plan to bring in live music acts as well.  And if you were wondering about that private karaoke room, it sounds like it will be sticking around.

The second is a “coming soon” sign for Cafe Vincero in a downtown space on Pacific between 7th and 9th.  According to a Volcano NWmilitary.com article, Cafe Vincero will be an Italian cafe with offerings including Italian espresso, pizza, pasta, lasagna.  The cafe will also bring something new to downtown Tacoma: 24 hour dining on Friday and Saturday nights. The projected opening date is sometime in July.

Also coming soon is outdoor dining attached to Shake, Shake, Shake.  As far as we’re concerned, there’s no such thing as too many outdoor dining options in a city, and this looks like it’s going to be a perfect spot for summer lunch.  Or dinner.  Or a shake-break…

And then there’s the soft opening today of Steel Creek - the new bar/steakhouse/whiskey joint opening up in the space that was, until recently, the Varsity Grill.

Steel Creek, Tacoma’s NEWEST & BIGGEST Country & Rock Venue is coming! Over 12,000 sqft of steakhouse, whiskey bar & dance hall packed into one!

Steel Creek will open their doors for dinner at 6 p.m. today, followed by a “21+ country party” at 9 p.m. Grab your cowboy boots, but don’t worry about reservations - it’s first-come-first-served tonight.

There are several other bars and night clubs with openings/reopenings/expansions in the works; the TNT today has a run down of those.  That should be enough new venues to keep happy hours and weekend evenings interesting for a while.  TGI
