Comings, Goings, and Planning Ahead

COMINGS AND GOINGS

The Harmon is coming to the Narrows Airport - they hope to be open by mid-July with a menu of pizzas, pastas, and fresh sandwiches similar to the Hub menu, and of course Harmon beers.

The Big Whisky will be closing its doors June 2, but they’ll be going out with a celebration May 30 through June 1.  Apparently the closure is due to the break up of a business partnership.  Already there’s the faint whisper of rumor that another nightclub may be opening in that cool building at 9th and A Street downtown.  We do like a good rumor - does anyone know more?

And after closing up shop on the corner of 6th and Proctor, Rocket Records is coming back just a few doors down at 3823 6th Avenue.  They closed after their old spot was bought out by a mixed martial arts studio, but expect to be open for business by the first week of June.

PLANNING AHEAD

We’re aware that summer has not even officially started yet, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not looking ahead.  We’ve always known that Tacoma loves its craft beer, and the Tacoma Craft Beer Festival has certainly proven that point the last few years, with sold out tickets and quickly draining kegs, it’s been a hit.  Well, planning ahead for this year’s festival, anyone who wasn’t able to get in to the sold out event in the past will be pleased to know that the über-popular event is moving from the Foss Waterway to Cheney Stadium to accomodate even more beer lovers than ever for its fifth year.  There will be plenty of tickets, and more beers than ever, but with only one day to enjoy the products of over 70 craft breweries, you may still want to invest in a ticket and put it on the calendar now: Saturday, September 7, noon to 9 pm at Cheney Stadium.

BRIDGE TO BEER

If this talk of beer has you thirsty for a local brew, think about the Defiance Bicycle/Seven Seas Brewing Bridge to Beer event this Monday it sounds like a perfect Memorial Day staycation to us…
