Connie Ladenburg Announces Run for State House
Former Tacoma City Councilwoman Connie Ladenburg has announced her candidacy for the State House seat being vacated by Steve Conway in the 29th LD. From the hot-off-the-presses news release:
Tacoma—Connie Ladenburg, a former two term Tacoma City Councilwoman and over 30 year resident of South Tacoma, has announced her candidacy for State House. “I am excited by the prospect of serving my community and working on
the issues that affect families most such as job growth, education and public safety,” Connie said. “At the City I was able to help prioritize our budget during the recession while protecting critical programs for job growth, public safety and education—I plan on taking my experience to help fix the budget woes in Olympia. I have 5 children and 9 grandchildren and I know that our children are our future—we have to tighten our belts without endangering our commitment to our children’s safety and education.”
“The 29th LD is a an area harder hit by the recession than many—neighborhoods of hard working families, small businesses and others particularly are in need of experienced, focused leadership. I’ll bring over three decades of community, schools and neighborhood leadership to Olympia
where I’ll hit the ground running for the people of the 29th.”
Connie has a long history of community involvement. She is a former PTA President, Co-Founder and member of the Alliance for Youth of Pierce County and founding member of Communities in Schools, Tacoma. While on the Council, Connie sponsored a new Domestic Violence policy for the Tacoma Police Department, sponsored a law that strengthened previous laws regarding the sale of drug paraphernalia, and worked with the Police Department to designate the Pacific Avenue corridor as a SOAP area (Stay Out of Area of Prostitution—a tool for judges to use when sentencing prostitution). Additionally, Connie secured funding to re-establish the Police Department’s Gang Task force and secured funding for a new police station in South Tacoma.
Tis the season for election announcements. Who’s next?
