County Council To Close Small Business Program
The TNT is reporting that the the Pierce County Council Rules Committee has killed the Historically Underutilized Business program intended to help small businesses win county contracts.
Originally, the program was to include goals for small-business participation in county contracts. But the program was never fully implemented, and it was suspended in early 2007.
Last fall a county economic stimulus report recommended the council either make the changes necessary to implement the program or eliminate it.
The change will go before the full council shortly.
So … can somebody explain the impact of the change?

How about encouraging, even giving bias to small businesses for city contracts?
Or at least, implement the program and actually, you know, tell folks it exists.

Doesn’t the “Incubator” perform the same function? And perform that function much better? Just wondering.

What does the county do? Besides build roads and sewer for vampire suburban developers that sap the life-force out of Tacoma?
