Cue a New Tacoma Theme Song?

Someone said to me in a recent conversation that it’s time for Tacoma to cue its theme song. We’re at that point in the movie, he said, where things look glum, the music starts, and the momentum builds again. It’s time to inspire the activists, the leaders, the students, the masses, and the super heroes to drive us toward a better … something.

And while many of us sang “You’ll Like Tacoma” at last week’s Chamber of Commerce luncheon, the song probably didn’t change the overall mood of our City.

So, we wonder what our theme song should be as we head into the future? What song would drive our City toward the vision you hope for?

Sadly the first song that came to mind was “Hell Aint A Bad Place To Be” by AC/DC. But that’s not what your looking for, is it.

    Just Once, James Ingram.
“I did my best, but I guess my best wasn’t good enough…”
We are torn with our love for Tacome. Can we find a chance to finally make it right? Make the magic last for more than just one night?

I thought of “Humans Extinct” by our own Nightgowns (formerly Elephants). It’s a cheerful song about how the sun will still shine after we’re long gone — kind of shows that Tacoma pluck, right?

Or how about “The Needle Has Landed” by Neko Case? Sure, she has more obviously Tacoma-themed songs like “Thrice All American,” but “Needle” is definitely about Tacoma, and it’s fittingly ethereal and impenetrable.

“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. Focused. Rising up to the challenge or our rivals. How can you not be inspired by that song?
Besides that, it’s the best song ever recorded. Period.

Now, after reading of the closing of the Seven Oh One, “Another One Bites The Dust” seems fitting. Thanks Tacoma.

fuzzybear almost had it right in the first post: AC/DC “It’s A Long Way to the Top If You Want To Rock and Roll!”
    Inspiring.

I submit one of the songs Doug Mackey wrote for City Club of Tacoma’s 25th anniversary celebration:

    ALL YOU NEED IS CASH
    (All You Need is Love)

There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done
No museum downtown that can’t be funded
A four hundred foot spire built at the bottom of a hill?
    It’s easy

There’s no one you can hire that won’t be paid
No dock in old town that can’t be saved
Murray Morgan Bridge will be restored for sure in time
    It’s easy

    All you need is cash
    All you need is cash
All you need is cash, cash
    Cash is all you need

There’s no condo in town that can’t be filled
No post and beam bridge that can’t be built
McMenamin’s Elks Lodge with a Turkish bath inside?
    It’s easy

    All you need is cash
    All you need is cash
All you need is cash, cash
    Cash is all you need

    All you need is cash
    All you need is cash
All you need is cash, cash
    Cash is all you need
